What Are Wax Melts?

Like scented candles, wax melts combine scented oils with melted wax that hardens for later use. Unlike candles, however, the wax in melts isn’t burned – it’s simply re-melted to release the delightful aromas. Generally considered a safer option, wax melts also boast a higher concentration of scent oils, filling your home with a more potent fragrance experience

What You’ll Need

  • Wax Melts: These come in various shapes and sizes, from cubes and bars to hearts and paws. Choose a scent that appeals to you!
  • Wax Melt Burner: There are two main types: electric burners that plug into the wall and tealight burners that use unscented tea lights.
  • Unscented Tea Lights (for tealight burners): Look for long-lasting tea lights specifically designed for wax warmers.

How to Use Wax Melts:

  1. Place your wax melt burner on a heat-resistant surface. This could be a countertop, table, or any sturdy, flat surface that won’t be damaged by heat.
  2. Add a wax melt to the dish of your burner. For most burners, a single cube or about one fifth of a bar is sufficient. One of our hearts or half of a paw melt are perfect. Take care not to overfill the bowl! However, some larger burners can accommodate more. Refer to your burner’s instructions for recommendations

Electric Burner:

3. Simply plug in your electric burner and turn it on. The dish will gently heat up, melting the wax and releasing the fragrance.

Tealight Burner:

  1. Place an unscented tea light underneath the dish check that the wick is trimmed to 5mm and light it with a safety lighter. The flame will warm the dish, melting the wax and releasing the fragrance.
  2. Relax and enjoy the fragrance! The scent will fill the air as the wax melts.

Tips for Using Wax Melts:

  • Don’t overheat the wax. Once the wax is melted, turn down the heat on your electric burner if possible. For tealight burners, do not burn the tealight for more than 4 hours. After 4 hours always snuff out the tealight, allow everything to cool before replacing with a new tealight.
  • Extinguish the tea light or turn off the electric burner when you’re finished. Once the fragrance has faded, it’s time to extinguish the flame or turn off the burner.
  • Changing your wax melt: Allow the melted wax to cool completely and solidify before removing it. A metal spoon can help you remove the hardened wax.
  • Cleaning your burner: Wipe out the dish of your burner with a damp cloth. (you can use soap and water for plant-based waxes) after each use to remove any leftover wax residue. Make sure the burner is completely dry before adding more wax.
  • Safety first! Don’t use your wax melter if the bowl has cracked. Never leave a burning tea light unattended and keep your burner and wax melts out of reach of children and pets.
